Free ways to tell your nonprofit’s story in NWA

By Melodieann Whitely, volunteer

If you think that nonprofits don’t have to engage in shameless self-promotion, think again. Charitable giving is down, and competition is fierce for those much-needed dollars.

Something we’ve learned at GiveCamp is that part of the battle is brand awareness. Just being able to tell our story makes a difference in how we are able to get our name out there so people better know what we do.

If you’re reading this, you know that blogs and websites are one of the best ways to tell your story. But we also wanted to create a resource of local free (or cheap) opportunities to tell your story in Northwest Arkansas.

Graphic that says NWA-based free story-telling resources for nonprofits.

Fayetteville Public Television Open Mic

Each week, nonprofits have the opportunity to be on camera for up to five minutes. You can share your mission, your services, publicize an event or generally speak your mind. Open Mic is free and a great way to share your story. Registration is not required. Just show up at the Fayetteville Television Center during one of the Open Mic Taping sessions. Call (479) 444-3433 or visit the FPTV website for more information.

Star 101.5 FM Giveback Wednesday

Brock and Marci feature a different nonprofit or event on Wednesdays. The GiveCamp board loved being on this show last summer! According to the 101.5 website, you can post on their FB page or call in and tell them about your charity or organization and any events coming up. They also feature one specific event with a call on-air every Wednesday morning at 9:10. Give them a call to learn more.

KLRC Nonprofit of the Month & Database

Each month KLRC partners with an organization to help meet a need or raise awareness. As the nonprofit of the month, the you would be highlighted at KLRC.com and featured in a 60-second spot that will air throughout your designated month. Nominate your nonprofit for Nonprofit of the Month at the KLRC website. As you can imagine, there are many nonprofits in the KLRC coverage area. Another way to make sure you’re featured for KLRC listeners is to submit your information to their Nonprofit Database.

KUAF Community Spotlight Series

KUAF highlights nonprofit organizations every weekday with Pete Hartman. The spots air at 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. You can learn more on their website, including examples of their spotlights.

KNWA Good Day NWA

The morning feel-good TV segment often features nonprofits, especially if they have an event that week. Learn more on their website.
